LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV Softball team fell 8-0 in five innings against California Baptist on Thursday evening on day one of the UNLV Leadoff Classic at Eller Media Stadium.
 
Presley Barnes, Lyla Gonzalez, Natalie Turner and Maggie Vasa all tallied a hit for the Rebels (0-1) against the Lancers (1-0). Gonzalez and Vasa each had a double on the night.
 
HOW IT WENT DOWN: The Lancers grabbed an early 3-0 lead in the top of the first inning on four hits. In the top of the second inning, CBU added five runs on four hits and capitalized on two errors made by the Rebels. The Rebels and Lancers then went three up, three down in the next inning and a half until UNLV was retired in the bottom of the third on a double-play. The Scarlet & Gray tried to get a rally going in the bottom of the fifth after a lead off double and a single with one out, but were then retired on two fly outs to the left side.
 
OTHER NOTES:

• Eight different Rebels made their debut for UNLV.
• Keyannah Chavez and Bri Williams each collected a walk.
• Yanina Sherwood, Raegen Everett and Emma Wardlaw all saw the circle for the Rebels. Everett collected her first strikeout in an UNLV uniform.
