Rebels Run-Rule Utah Tech 11-3 In Midweek Contest

Head Coach Kristie Fox collected her 250th win at the helm of the Rebels

LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team earned an 11-3 run-rule victory in five innings over Utah Tech in a midweek contest on Tuesday afternoon at Eller Media Stadium.

Diamond Sefe and Bri Williams' bats remained hot at the plate as they led the Rebels (14-15) offense each with three hits against the Trailblazers (10-18). Sefe nearly hit the cycle today going 3-for-3 which included two home runs and a double. She additionally had a team-high three RBI and was tied for the team-high in runs with three. Williams was 3-for-4 on the day with a double, an RBI and scored two runs. Williams collected the walk-off RBI in the bottom of the fifth to secure the victory. Yanina Sherwood collected the win in relief for her fifth of the season.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: The Trailblazers jumped out front in the top of the first inning 2-0 on two hits. However, the Rebels answered back with four runs in the bottom half of the first to go ahead 4-2 after two two-run singles by Charelle Aki and Taryn Calderon. The second inning was scoreless by both squads and in the bottom of the third inning, Diamond Sefe went yard over the left field wall and made it 5-2. In the bottom of the fourth, UNLV tallied five more runs on two hits and took advantage of two Utah Tech errors to go up 10-2. Sefe again left the yard in the bottom of the fourth for a two-run shot. In the top of the fifth inning, the Trailblazers grabbed another run on an RBI triple and made it 10-3. In the bottom of the fifth with two outs, Natalie Turner was hit by a pitch. With a 1-0 count, Bri Williams roped a double to right center bringing Turner all the way around to score and to capture the run-rule victory.
