LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV Athletics is once again hosting a Bed Build Day on Saturday, April 18, in the parking lot of the Thomas & Mack Center, and the public is invited to volunteer to help and/or donate online.
This will be the third time that the athletics department has hosted a Bed Build Day through its partnership with Sleep In Heavenly Peace, and the goal is to build another 100 beds to help Las Vegas youth who are in need of a comfortable place to sleep. The event will take place from 8 a.m.-2 p.m.
"We are proud to host our third Bed Build Day in partnership with Sleep in Heavenly Peace and continue making a meaningful impact in our community," said UNLV Director of Athletics Erick Harper. "This event brings together our student-athletes, staff, campus and the Las Vegas community to serve a greater purpose, and we are excited to build 100 beds that will provide local children with a safe, comfortable place to sleep. We encourage everyone to join us on April 18 to volunteer or support this important cause."
The first bed build event with UNLV Athletics took place in 2022 and was a big success. The second was held two years later, in 2024. Those interested in helping may click here to learn more and to register to volunteer.
Donations can be made through the website as well, by clicking here. A fundraising goal of $33,000 has been set to pay for the materials to build 100 beds. Donations are tax-deductible, and any excess funds that exceed the goal will be donated directly to the Las Vegas chapter of Sleep In Heavenly Peace for additional supplies.
The organization will also accept new bedding on-site that day. New twin-size bedding, pillows, and pillowcases are all encouraged.
"The Las Vegas Chapter of Sleep in Heavenly Peace is excited and grateful for the multi-year partnership that has been developed with UNLV Athletics," said Chris McDowell, chapter co-president. "Our collective efforts have provided beds to over 200 children since 2022, and we look forward to providing even more beds this year."
