Rebels Collect Series Over Boise State With 10-6 Win In Game Two

UNLV has now won six straight Mountain West series and are on a six-game win streak

BOISE, Idaho (UNLVRebels.com) - The UNLV softball team defeated Boise State 10-6 in game two of the three-game Mountain West series on Saturday afternoon at Huber Field at Dona Larsen Park. The Rebels (26-18, 13-5) collected the series against the Broncos (20-28, 6-12) and have now won their sixth straight series over Mountain West foes.
 
Mantha Hatzenbeller had a career day at the plate in her home state going 4-for-4 with two two-run home runs, tied her career-high in RBI with four and a career-high three runs scored. Presley Barnes, Diamond Sefe and Bri Williams each went 2-for-4 against the Broncos. Sefe roped a solo homer and Williams had a three-run double on the day. Sophie Stockam collected her first career win in relief and Lauren Fettic picked up her third save of the season.
 
HOW IT WENT DOWN: UNLV jumped out front in the top of the second inning after a bases clearing double by BrI Williams, 3-0. In the top of the third inning, the Rebels added three more runs to their lead after Keyannah Chavez scored on a wild pitch and a two-run home run by Mantha Hatzenbeller. In the bottom half of the third, the Broncos got within one after a three-run homer over left and a two-run inside the park homer to right, 6-5. The fourth was scoreless by both squads. Diamond Sefe led off the top of the fifth inning with a solo homer to center. With one out and a runner on first, Hatzenbeller smacked another two-run homer to put UNLV up 9-5. In the bottom of the fifth, Boise State hit a home run over left center and made it 9-6. Charelle Aki went yard in the top of the seventh inning to give UNLV a 10-6 heading into the bottom half of the final inning. With two outs in the bottom of the seventh, Boise State was able to get a runner on with a single down the third base line. However, Lauren Fettic struck out the Broncos looking to secure the Rebels' win.
 
OTHER NOTES
  • Charelle Aki roped her 10th homer of the season.
  • Stockam pitched a career-high 2.1 innings and tied her career-high in strikeouts with two.
  • The Rebels had four home runs on the day, which ties a season-high.
  • UNLV out-hit Boise State 13-7.
  • Chavez had a hit and a walk against the Broncos. She has now extended her on-base streak to 15 games.
  • Rachel Cook also had a hit and has extended her on base streak to nine games.
  • Natalie Turner is now on a 19-game on base streak.
  • Sefe has now reached base in 11 consecutive games.
