Keyannah Chavez hits a go-ahead solo home run in the top of the ninth inning to propel the UNLV softball team to a 4-3 victory over Grand Canyon in the series opener on Friday evening at GCU Softball Stadium. The Scarlet & Gray (28-18, 15-5) have extended their win streak to eight games.

The Rebels fell behind 3-1 to the Lopes (43-7, 16-4) in the fourth inning, before tying the game in the bottom of the sixth inning. UNLV retired GCU in the bottom of the seventh inning to force extra innings. Chavez and
Mantha Hatzenbeller led the Rebels' offense each going 2-for-4 on the night. Chavez also had a walk in the evening. Haztenbeller roped the squad's lone double of the game.
Charelle Aki was 1-for-2 against GCU including an RBI and a walk.
Lauren Fettic had a career night in the circle going the full distance pitching all 9.0 innings. Fettic only allowed two earned runs, two walks and had a career-high nine strikeouts. She is now 13-7 in the circle for the Scarlet & Gray.

HOW IT WENT DOWN: The first three innings were scoreless until
Charelle Aki broke it open in the top of the fourth inning with a solo homer to left, 1-0. The Lopes countered in the bottom of the fourth scoring three runs on three hits to take a 3-1 lead. Both squads were held off the board in the fifth. In the top of the sixth inning,
Rachel Cook got the Rebels within one on an RBI single to center, 3-2. UNLV then took advantage of a GCU error to tie the game 3-all. The seventh inning was quick, as both squads were retired in order to force extra innings. In the bottom of the eighth, the Lopes tried to threaten with a runner on with two outs, but a fly ball to left forced a ninth inning. In the top of the ninth inning with two outs, Chavez roped the second pitch she saw out over the right center wall and put the Rebels ahead 4-3. In the bottom of the ninth inning, UNLV retired GCU in order to collect the victory.

OTHER NOTES:
- This marked the first extra innings game of the season for UNLV.
- The Rebels were hit four times at the plate, which marks a season-high four hit by pitches.
- Bri Williams and Rachel Cook each had hits against GCU.
- Williams was also hit by a pitch, which brings her season total to 20. She is now only three away from the school record.
- Cook is now on an 11-game on-base streak.
- Chavez is now on a 17 game reached base streak.
- Sefe was hit by a pitch, which extended her reached base streak to 13 games.

UP NEXT: The Rebels and Lopes will battle it out again in game two on Saturday, April 25 at 1 p.m. at GCU Softball Stadium.
