LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV quarterback Alex Orji is part of the official nominees list released Monday for the 2026 AFCA Allstate Good Works Team.
 
College football student-athletes and head coaches from all levels are recognized for their commitment to community service and leadership beyond the gridiron through the Good Works Team, which was established in 1992.
 
Orji, a senior from Sachse, Texas, returns for his second season this fall with the Rebels. The former Michigan transfer started UNLV's first game at quarterback in 2025 but suffered a season-ending injury in Game Three vs. UCLA.
 
The squad's top community service performer off the field regularly volunteers his time to local charity foundation Goodie Two Shoes along with staffing multiple events across the calendar, including Build A Bed, Three Square Food Bank and Nevada Reading Week.
 
The 2026 Allstate AFCA Good Works Team will be announced in September and include 22 student-athletes and one honorary head coach. One student-athlete will also be selected as team captain.
 
A selection panel composed of former Good Works Team members, college football coaches, journalists and other leaders connected to the award reviews nominations from across the country. Voters evaluate candidates based on the breadth and depth of their community service, demonstrated leadership, academic achievement and the measurable impact they have had on the people and causes they serve. The panel then selects 11 NCAA FBS players, 11 players from the NCAA FCS, Divisions II, III and the NAIA ranks, and one honorary head coach.
 
Under the direction of second-year head coach Dan Mullen, Orji and the Rebels will kick off their 59th season of football August 29 by hosting Memphis in a highly anticipated Week Zero national matchup on FOX TV.
