LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – UNLV senior linebacker
Cam Santee's return to play in his home state of Ohio not only helped his team to a record-tying win over Akron this weekend but also earned him Old Trapper Mountain West Defensive Player of the Week honors on Monday.
Santee (san-TEE), who graduated from Avon High School about an hour's drive from Akron, led all players with 10 total tackles, including eight solo stops, in the Rebels' 38-10 win over the Zips, which tied for the program's largest win over a non-conference opponent on the road since UNLV first joined a conference in 1982. Santee's Saturday also included grabbing one of his team's three interceptions as the Rebel defense surrendered a penalty-aided touchdown drive on the opening series before not allowing the home team to find the end zone again and pitching a second-half shutout.
Santee, who transferred here after an outstanding career at Holy Cross, joins UNLV safety
Tre Fulton (Sept. 7) in earning MW defensive honors this season and is the first linebacker to take such an award since former All-American and current Miami Dolphin
Jackson Woodard in 2024.
After a month away from home, head coach
