LAS VEGAS (UNLVRebels.com) – Fresh from a record-setting defensive effort at Hawai'i, UNLV earned a pair of Old Trapper Mountain West honors Monday as sophomore safety
Tre Fulton was named Defensive Player of the Week and redshirt rookie defensive lineman
Kal-El Togafau was tabbed Freshman of the Week.
UNLV's defensive efforts produced the fewest points by a road opponent since a 23-5 win at Wisconsin in 2003 and the fewest by a MW foe away from home since a 24-3 domination of BYU in Provo in 2002.
Fulton (Bakersfield, CA) is the third consecutive UNLV defensive player of the week honoree who lined up as a safety, joining
Aamaris Brown last fall and
Jalen Catalon in 2024. Fulton simply filled up the stat sheet, posting a career-high 12 total tackles, including eight solo stops, a sack for loss of eight yards, a forced fumble and a pass breakup in the end zone that turned an apparent touchdown reception into an incompletion late in the third quarter.
Togafau (Rancho Cucamonga, CA), meanwhile, is the first-ever Rebel winner of the freshman award from the defensive side of the ball since the honor was introduced in 2021. The lineman posted two of his team's five quarterback sacks vs. the Rainbow Warriors, both coming on the same drive and the second of which came on first-and-goal and pushed the home team back six yards.
