UNLV Athletics Hall Of Fame
The first UNLV women's tennis player to earn spot in the hall of fame, Marianne Vallin (1994-97) is arguably the most decorated female athlete in school history. The only player in any Rebel sport - men's or women's - to be named conference player of the year three times in a career (1994 and '96 Big West, 1997 WAC), Vallin was a first team All-American in singles three times (1995-97) after being named the ITA National Freshman of the Year as rookie from Sweden in 1994. An eight-time first team all-conference honoree (four each in singles and doubles), she qualified for a school-record seven combined individual NCAA championship tournament appearances (four singles and three doubles). Still standing first all-time at the school with 125 singles victories, she also is fifth in career doubles wins with 62 and holds the program record for highest singles ranking (fourth). The 1997 Nevada NCAA Woman of the Year and two-time UNLV SportsWoman of the Year earned one of the biggest individual kudos in school history after her senior season when she brought home the 1997 Gladys Heldman Award, which goes to the nation's top women's tennis student-athlete.
