A four-year starter at guard for the Runnin’ Rebels, Jovan “Wink” Adams is the famed program’s only four-year all-conference honoree since the end of the Jerry Tarkanian era. The four-star recruit out of Houston’s Gulf Shores Academy was a top-20 prep signee when he joined head coach Lon Kruger’s program in 2005 and lived up to the billing – and more – before he left campus. Adams played in every game as a freshman, starting 20, and was Honorable Mention All-Mountain West after a rookie campaign that included tying a school single-game record with eight steals vs. Colorado State. Second Team All-MW as a sophomore, he also earned a spot on the league’s All-Tournament Team after proving unstoppable against top-seeded BYU in the championship game. The Runnin’ Rebels went on to win the league title and down both Georgia Tech and Wisconsin to reach the school’s first Sweet 16 in 16 years. Adams was named First Team All-MW as a junior after leading the league in scoring during conference play, ranking in the top 10 in scoring, field-goal percentage, assists, free-throw percentage, steals and 3-point field goals made in conference-only games. This time he earned MW Tournament MVP honors while guiding UNLV back to the Big Dance where they won a first-round matchup with Kent State. As a senior, he led his team in scoring for the third consecutive season and was a member of the all-league second team. Selected to the National Association of Basketball Coaches’ All-District Team in both of his final two campaigns, Adams still ranks sixth at UNLV in scoring with 1,875 points, third in school history with 213 steals, third with 208 made three-pointers and sixth with 427 made free throws.
