BIRMINGHAM, Ala. - The fourth-ranked UNLV golf team shot a final-round 277 to force a playoff with Clemson for the team title at the 12-team Jerry Pate National Intercollegiate played at the par-71, 6,958-yard Old Overton Golf Club Tuesday.
The playoff between the Rebels and the Tigers went to two holes as Clemson won by one shot. Clemson made two birdies on the second hole to UNLV's one.
After Clemson (284-273-278-835) and UNLV (283-275-277-835), were Georgia (280-277-281-838), Houston (279, 281-280-840) and Oklahoma State (288-288-273-849) rounding out the top five.
Individually, Oklahoma State's Charles Howell (68-66-67-201) captured medalist honors at 12-under par. Paul Casey (65-70-67-202) of Arizona State and Andy Sanders (69-69-64-202) of Houston both tied for second, while UNLV's Adam Scott (68-66-70-204) finished fourth to lead the Rebels.
Other Rebels competing were Michael Kirk (T7th/69-67-71-207), Jeremy Anderson (17th/75-71-68-214), Calvin Kupeyan (T18th/71-71-73-215) and Tyler Mays (T39th/76-76-68-220).
The Rebels will be back in action Nov. 5-7, at the GolfWorld/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational in Hilton Head, S.C.
