LAS VEGAS - UNLV punter Ray Cheetany, has been named one of the nation's Top 10 Special Teams Players in college football by Sports Illustrated in this week's issue.
Cheetany, a junior who came to UNLV after playing two years at Iowa Central Community College, is ranked fifth in the nation in punting with a 45-yard average. He also kicks off for the Rebels and even completed a pass for 24 yards on a fake punt at Wyoming.
It is the second consecutive season that a Rebel punter has made the list. In 1998, Joe Kristosik also was honored by SI before he was named the school's first-ever consensus first-team All-American.
Earlier this year, Rebel running back Jeremi Rudolph was named as one of the nation's top-10 transfers by the same magazine.
