LAS VEGAS - The seventh-ranked UNLV golf team shot an opening-round two-under-par 286 and is in a tie for 12th place at the 18-team Rolex/Golf World/Palmetto Dunes Collegiate Invitational, presented by Cleveland Golf played at the par-72, 6,651-yard Aurthur Hills Golf Course Friday.
The Rebels are tied with Duke and Florida Southern at 286 in 12th place. Texas shot a 16-under 272 and leads all teams. South Carolina (278) is in second, Georgia (279) is in third, North Carolina (280) is in fourth and Georgia Tech (281) rounds out the top five.
Individually, North Carolina's Rob Simmons is the leader at seven-under 65. Clemson's Lucas Glover, Georgia's Erik Compton and South Carolina's Eric Ecker are all tied for second at 66. UNLV's Jeremy Anderson leads all Rebel players and is tied for 20th at 70.
Other Rebels competing are Adam Scott (T29th/71), Michael Kirk (T39th/72), Calvin Kupeyan (T51st/73) and Scott Lander (84th/77).
The tournament continues Saturday and concludes Sunday with 18 holes each day.
