NASSAU, The Bahamas - Linda Fr?hlich recorded 23 points and a career-high 18 rebounds for her eighth double-double in as many games as the UNLV women's basketball team defeated Sacramento State 78-64 in the consolation championship of the Nassau Sun Splash Shootout played at Kendal G.L. Isaacs National Gymnasium Tuesday.
UNLV outscored Sacramento State 16-3 over the final 5:00 to seal the victory.
Trailing 42-34 with 16:18 left to play, UNLV went on a 12-0 run to take a four-point lead at 46-42 with 11:42 remaining. The Lady Rebels led 62-61 with 5:00 left in the game before running away from the Hornets.
UNLV used a 9-2 run over 3:47 in the first half to take a 19-10 lead with 11:17 to play. Sacramento State battled back and took a 26-25 lead with 4:14 remaining in the half and outscored UNLV 9-2 from there to take a 35-27 halftime lead.
UNLV (5-4) had four players record double figure in points. Kinesha Davis contributed 16, while Carlesa Dixon and Dayna Gambill each had 13. Dixon's 13 points marked a career-high for her. UNLV committed 14 turnovers in the first half, however only lost the ball six times in the second half.
Sacramento State (2-7) was led by Sephora Scoubes' 23 points and nine rebounds.
UNLV will now return home and be back in action on Tuesday, Dec. 28. The Lady Rebels will host Cal State Fullerton at the Thomas & Mack Center at 5:00 p.m. for their first home contest in 30 days. That game will be followed by the UNLV men's basketball game vs. Eastern Kentucky at 7:35 p.m.
