Two Rebel Softball Players Named to All-West Region Team

May 20, 1999

LAS VEGAS - Shortstop Racheal Goodpaster was named to the First Team All-West Region and teammate Erica Vollweiler garnered Second Team accolades for her work in the outfield as announced by the National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Thursday.

Goodpaster led the Rebels in numerous categories this season including home runs (14), batting average (.371), doubles (16) and RBI (34) while starting all 49 of the Rebels games at shortstop. After just one home run in her freshman campaign, Goodpaster finished her second year just one shy of the school record of 15 round-trippers. In the field Goodpaster compiled a fielding percentage of .930 with 16 errors on 228 attempts. She was awarded First Team All-WAC honors by the conference last week and will now be on the All-America ballot.

Vollweiler transferred from Fresno City Junior College this season and made an immediate impact with the Rebels. She was second only to Goodpaster in batting average (.340) and her speed and versatility made her a threat to get on base each time she was at the plate. The Rebels' lead off hitter for much of the season, Vollweiler earned Second Team All-West region for her play in the outfield, although she also spent some time at first base early in the season. Vollweiler was also a Second Team All-WAC award winner.

Both Goodpaster and Vollweiler will be considered for All-America honors. The voting will take place May 24.
