UNLV Softball Concludes Season with a Sweep Over New Mexico

UNLV concluded its season with a pair of victories over conference foe New Mexico, 7-5 and 11-3. The Rebels finished their season with a record of 21-30 and a 13-19 conference mark.

In game one, UNLV took a 2-0 lead off a two RBI-double by Racheal Goodpaster in the top of the third inning. The Lobos quickly answered in their half of the third when Kathy Moore hit a two-run homer to tie the score. UNLV scored a run in the fourth but missed an opportunity to extend its lead when a bases-loaded double play ended the inning. The lead was short lived as New Mexico once again tied it up in the bottom of the inning, this time off a RBI-double by Suzanne Dow. Raven Coberg's two-run home run, her eighth of the season, put UNLV up 5-3 in the fifth. The Lobos tied it up in the sixth with a RBI-single by Danielle Cassara, who scored off an error on Rebel second baseman Devon Ramos for the 5-5 score. Julie Crandall broke the tie in the top of the seventh with a single that drove in Amy Alves. UNLV added a run to go up 7-5 and held New Mexico in its half of the inning for the win. Brandi Isgar picked up the win to go 14-20 on the season.

The nightcap saw UNLV set a school record with 19 runs. The Rebels took an early 1-0 lead in the first inning off a single by Coberg that drove in Nicole Miller The score stayed at 1-0 until the fourth when Keao Chang scored the Rebels second run. Crandall gave UNLV the 3-0 lead with a RBI-single. Two batters later freshman Stephanee Italiano's triple drove in two runs to give the Rebels a 5-0 advantage entering the bottom of the fourth. The Lobos got on the board in the fourth when Laine Horne came in on a Danielle Ferriera wild pitch. A Krissy Keene double cut the Rebel lead to 5-2. Kelly DeArman came in relief and walked her first two batters, scoring Melissa Krolik with the bases loaded and making it a two-run game. Isgar replaced DeArman in the fifth and retired five straight batters. The Rebels extended their lead when Coberg hit her second home run of the day in the Rebels half of the sixth to make the score 7-3. In the seventh inning Goodpaster record a record-setting 18th hit. The hit broke the previous UNLV record of 17 which UNLV had accomplished last in 1993 against Pacific. In the next at bat Crandall hit a three-run home run in her last collegiate at bat for UNLV and the Rebels went on to win 11-3. Fellow senior Isgar picked up her 15th win to complete her college career.
