LAS VEGAS - The 36th-ranked UNLV women's tennis team lost two third-set tie-breakers and fell to No. 8 William & Mary 5-4 to close out the Excalibur Challenge at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Saturday.
The Lady Rebels (3-7), who have never defeated a top-10 team, got singles wins from Gee Gee Garvin, Lisa Annebro and Marcella Valkenhoff. William & Mary (10-4), however, earned two of its three singles points with come-from-behind, three-set wins at the third and fourth spots to tie things at three apiece heading into doubles.
Despite UNLV winning at the top doubles position with an 8-4 victory by the 13th-ranked duo of Garvin and Susie Kocsis, the Tribe won the other two doubles points to clinch the match.
UNLV gets only one day's rest before hosting No. 3-ranked Duke Monday at 1:30 p.m. on campus.
