Women's Tennis Rebounds at WAC Tourney

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - UNLV swept doubles play en route to a 7-2 win over Air Force in the first round of the consolation draw of the 1999 WAC Women's Tennis Championship at Albuquerque Academy North Thursday.

The Lady Rebels improved to 7-14 overall and 3-3 in the WAC.

UNLV won four of six singles matches and then clinched things by taking all three doubles points.

Winning for UNLV in singles were Katarina Malec, Veronica Goude, Susie Kocsis and Marcella Valkenhoff. In doubles, Kocsis teamed with Valkenhoff for a win, Marianne Bakken joined Goude for a victory and Britta Gabl and Malec won a 9-8 tiebreaker for to pull off the sweep.

The Lady Rebels will play Colorado State in Friday's consolation semifinals. The Rams were 7-2 winners over Hawaii.

The finals in both the main and consolation draws are Saturday.
