April 10, 1998PROVO, Utah - The 42nd-ranked UNLV women's tennis team won only one match in falling to WAC-rival and seventh-ranked BYU 7-1 at the Outdoor Courts Friday.
The Lady Rebels, who fell to 7-9 overall and 0-1 in the league, got their only point from a 6-4, 4-6, 7-5 win by senior Lisa Annebro over Tara Reid at the fourth singles position.
The Cougars, who improved to 17-2 and 4-0, won two other three-set matches to help build a 5-1 lead after singles play. UNLV's Marcella Valkenhoff suffered her first collegiate defeat at the sixth spot after opening the season 7-0.
In doubles, BYU won both of the completed matches as the No. 1 doubles slot was not played. The Lady Rebels next take on No. 55 Utah Saturday in Salt Lake City in a key regional match-up.
