LAS VEGAS - The top-ranked UNLV golf team earned a spot in its 11th straight NCAA West Regional Championships field, which was announced by the NCAA.
The Rebels will be the top seed at the tournament to be played at the Omni Tucson National Golf Resort (par 72, 7,087 yards) in Tucson, Ariz., on May 20-22.
UNLV was one of 10 teams from the Western Athletic Conference to qualify for a spot in one of this year's three regional fields.
The top nine teams at the West Regional qualify for the 30-squad NCAA finals to be played in Chaska, Minn., at Hazeltine Country Club on June 2-5. UNLV, winner of the 1990, 1994 and 1997 West Regionals, has never finished lower than fifth in the 18-team event. At last year's tournament in Tempe, Ariz., the Rebels finished third, however the last time the regional was held in Tucson, UNLV claimed the title at Tucson National (1994).
WAC teams joining UNLV in this year's West Regional are Brigham Young, New Mexico, Fresno State, San Diego State, Colorado State and UTEP. Tulsa, SMU and TCU are going to the Central Regional.
