UNLV Golf Wins GCAA Team Effort Award

May 25, 1998

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The top-ranked UNLV golf team was awarded the Golf Coaches Association of America's Team Effort Award at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championship National Awards Banquet at the Wyndham Hotel Monday night.

The award, which the Rebels won for the first time in their history, honors the team that finishes No. 1 in the final GCAA Team Effort Coaches Poll. UNLV remained the top team in the poll throughout the spring.

"This award is a great honor for the team," UNLV Head Coach Dwaine Knight said. "I would like to congratulate our players for a tremendous year. This is the first time we have ever finished first in a major poll at the end of the year. It is a terrific reflection on the season that we have had."

Also, as part of the banquet the all-district teams were announced as senior Bill Lunde, junior Charley Hoffman and sophomore Jeremy Anderson were all named to the District 8 squad.

The Rebels are in Albuquerque to compete in the 1998 NCAA Division I Men's Golf Championships, which begin Wednesday.
