Max Good Named Runnin' Rebel Assistant

LAS VEGAS - The Runnin' Rebels basketball program announced today that Max Good has been named as an assistant coach and will join head coach Bill Bayno's staff. He is joined by associate head coach Glynn Cyprien, who will begin his fifth season, and assistant coach Dave Rice, who will begin his sixth season.

Good brings a wealth of basketball coaching experience to the UNLV program. He has totaled 29 years of experience in the coaching profession ranging from high school to college on the division I level. The 1999-2000 Runnin' Rebel basketball season will mark Good's 30th year of coaching.

He spent the last 10 seasons (1989-99) as the head coach at Maine Central Institute in Pittsfield Maine. He compiled an impressive 275-30 (.902) record that included five New England Prep School Athletic Conference Championships. The NEPSAC is considered the top sub college league in the country.

His squad captured back-to-back conference championships with a two-year mark of 69-4 (.945). The 1998-99 squad compiled a 34-4 overall record and the 1997-98 team was 35-0. The '98-99 team featured DerMarr Johnson, the Parade National Player of the Year. Johnson signed a national letter of intent at Cincinnati.

During his tenure, Good's teams enjoyed three undefeated seasons (26-0 in '89-90, 24-0 in '90-91, 35-0 in '97-98). From 1989-92, Maine Central Institute compiled 79 straight victories. The 1991-92 squad was 29-1. Good also boasts 87 players who went on to play in division I and four NBA players: Etdrick Bohannon (Washington Wizards), Sam Cassell (New Jersey Nets), Brad Miller (Charlotte Hornets) and Cuttino Mobley (Houston Rockets). Runnin' Rebel senior center Issiah Epps also played at Maine Central Institute.

His extensive coaching background included five seasons as the assistant coach at Eastern Kentucky University in Richmond (1976-81). He then was named the head coach and spent eight seasons at Eastern Kentucky from 1981-89. He compiled an overall record of 96-129 (.427). He enjoyed his best season in 1986-87 with a 19-11 record. He was named the Ohio Valley Conference Coach of the Year. The next season, his squad was 18-11.

Before arriving at Eastern Kentucky, he spent six seasons at Richmond Madison High School in Richmond, Ky. He served three seasons (1970-73) as the JV head coach and three seasons (1973-76) as the head coach.

Good, 57, is a 1969 graduate of Eastern Kentucky. He received his master's degree from the same institution in 1970.
