SAN FRANCISCO - UNLV sophomore midfielder Stephanie Sutter scored with only 0:02 remaining in double overtime to lift the Rebels to a dramatic 3-2 victory over USF on Friday at Negoesco Stadium. Sutter took a pass from Thyre Brooks and scooted past USF goalkeeper Brittany Ulrich before erupting into celebration with her teammates.
UNLV improves to 2-0, while USF is now 0-4 at the beginning of the young season.
Janae Sims had a pair of goals for the Rebels, including the first goal of the contest just 3:45 into the match on an assist by Anita Pedford. USF responded quickly as Heidi Prestegard knotted the score at 1-1 with a goal at 5:13 on an assist from Kirsteen Buchan. After Sims scored again on an assist by Pedford at 60:51 to put UNLV ahead 2-1, Buchan responded just 10 seconds later to retie the score at 2-2. Buchan?s first collegiate goal came off assists from Meghan Daly and Melissa Lentz.
The Rebels complete their Northern California road trip on Sunday in a 12:00 PDT match at Cal State Sacramento.
