Rebels Finish Road Trip With Loss To The Lumberjacks

Sept. 19, 1999

Flagstaff, AZ - The Northern Arizona women's soccer team (1-4-1) felt the thrill of victory Sunday defeating the Rebels 2-0 at Lumberjack Stadium. The win ended a losing streak that extended back to last season's loss to Kent in Flagstaff.

The eventual game-winner came at 23:19 when sophomore forward Holly Jones' 25-yard rainbow kick found the left corner of the goal. Jones' second goal of the afternoon, and the season, came on a breakaway at 87:59 with senior defender Rebekah Breech earning the assist. Jones led all players by taking five shots, four of which were on goal.

Despite being held scoreless, the Rebels (2-3-1) out shot NAU taking 16 shots to the Lumberjacks' nine, 11 of which came after the half. However, NAU seemed to be in control of the match, as several scoring opportunities were negated by five offside calls against the home team.

"We struggled on offense this afternoon. We're still looking for the right chemistry," said UNLV head coach Stacy Hendershott. "We need to find the right group of players and get focused and get the ball in the back of the net."

The Rebels home stand includes games this week against Cal State Fullerton on Tuesday, Sept. 21 at 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, Sept. 24 at 7:00 p.m.
