AUBURN, Ala. - The second-ranked UNLV golf team is in a tie for 11th place after the first round of play at the 18-team PING/Golfweek NCAA Preview played at the par-72, 6,985-yard Grand National Lake Course Sunday.
The Rebels, who shot an opening-round 11-over-par 299, are 20 shots off the leader Clemson (279). Georgia (285) and Northwestern (285) are tied for second, while Arizona State (289) and Oklahoma State (289) are tied for fourth place. Georgia Tech (290) is sixth.
Individually, Bubba Watson of Georgia has the individual lead at five-under 67. Northwestern's Luke Donald and Clemson's D.J. Trahan are tied for second, one shot back at four-under. The Rebels are led by Adam Scott, who shot an even-par 72 and is tied for 16th.
Other Rebels competing were Brien Davis (T40th/75), Jeremy Anderson (T49th/76), Michael Kirk (T49th/76) and Scott Lander (T71st/78).
The tournament continues with 18 holes on Monday and concludes with 18 holes on Tuesday.
