Women's Basketball Falls To BYU 84-75

LAS VEGAS - Jill Adams led all scorers with 28 points and three other Cougars scored in double figures as Brigham Young defeated UNLV 84-75 in both team's Mountain West Conference opener Thursday at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Adams also led BYU (11-3, 1-0 MWC) with seven rebounds and five assists. Other Cougars in double-figure scoring were Erin Thorn with 15 points, Cady Williams with 14 and Jennifer Leitner with 10.

UNLV was led by Constance Jinks' 20 points. Linda Fr?hlich recorded her 12th straight double-double with 19 points and 16 rebounds. Kinesha Davis added 16 points for UNLV (8-6, 0-1 MWC), while Erin Johansson made four three-pointers for 12 points.

Brigham Young used a 12-0 run over 4:23 in the first half to take a 21-6 lead with 10:37 left. UNLV cut the Cougars' lead to 10 points at 27-17 with five minutes left in the first half, however BYU took a 36-22 halftime lead.

BYU increased its lead to 21 points at 58-37 with 10:39 remaining in the game. UNLV fought back to cut the deficit to six points at 79-73 with 34.2 seconds left, but would get no closer.

UNLV will remain at home for its next contest as it hosts Utah on Saturday, Jan. 15 at the Thomas & Mack Center at 7:35 p.m.
