UNLV Women's Basketball Falls At SDSU, 54-52

SAN DIEGO, Calif. - Shannon Lee drove the lane and made a layup with 28.7 seconds left to break a tie-score and San Diego State held on from there for a 54-52 win over UNLV in a Mountain West Conference women's basketball game Saturday at Cox Arena.

UNLV trailed by as many as 19 points in the first half, but rallied during the second half of play to eventually tie the score at 50-50 with 3:20 to play. The Lady Rebels took a 52-50 lead with 2:43 left, but SDSU scored the final four points of the game.

The Lady Rebels used a 12-0 run over 8:05 to take the two-point lead with 2:43 left.

San Diego State started the game by scoring the first 10 points and eventually increased its advantage to 19-2 with 12:19 to play. UNLV cut the lead to 10 points at 19-9 with 8:59 left, however SDSU increased its advantage to 19 on its way to a 36-22 halftime lead.

San Diego State (6-12, 1-4 MWC) won its first-ever conference game behind Lee's 17 points. Kacee Wheeler added 11 for SDSU.

UNLV (10-8, 2-3 MWC) was led by Linda Fr?hlich's double-double of 22 points and a career-high 22 rebounds. Fr?hlich entered the contest seven points shy of recording her 1,000th career point. Constance Jinks contributed 18 points for UNLV, which was 0-for-17 from 3-point range and 2-for-13 from the free throw line.

UNLV will return home to host Colorado State and Wyoming next week at the Thomas & Mack Center. The Lady Rebels will face CSU on Thursday, Feb. 3, at 7:35 p.m. UNLV will then meet UW on Saturday, Feb. 5, at 5:00 p.m., which precedes the Runnin' Rebels game with Utah.
