Women's Soccer Hosts MWC Tournament

Storyline: The UNLV women's soccer team enters the week with a 11-8 record after splitting two matches last weekend in the UNLV/FILA Classic, dropping a 2-1 decision to Western Michigan on Friday and then rebounding with a 3-0 shutout of UTEP on Sunday. This week, the Rebels host the Mountain West Conference Tournament on Nov. 1-4. Junior Janae Sims leads the team in goals with 10 and in scoring with 23 points. The Rebels play Air Force for the second straight year in the first round of the MWC tournament on Wednesday, Nov. 1 at 7:00 p.m. UNLV looks to avenge a 5-2 loss last season in the MWC tournament. UNLV defeated the Falcons 3-1 earlier in the season at Johann Field.

UNLV Head Coach Dan Abdalla: Dan Abdalla took over the reins of the UNLV women's program in February, after serving as an assistant coach last season ... Abdalla was a former goalkeeper on the UNLV men's team in 1997 and set a school record with 321 career saves over 68 games, nine shutouts and a 1.95 GAA with the Rebels ... also new this season to the coaching staff is assistant Maren Hendershot, who was a two-time NSCAA All-American, four-time all-conference selection and 1999 MWC player of the year for BYU.

About Air Force: The Falcons end the regular season with a 5-13-1 record and 2-4 in the MWC. However, the Academy has won three of the past five matches, including a 3-2 victory over Iowa on Sunday. The Hawkeyes defeated UNLV in a tournament earlier in the year. Air Force comes into the tournament with Beth Boyer leading the way with six goals, eight assists and 20 points. Right behind her is Stephanie Rader with a team leading eight goals, one assist and 17 points. The all-time series is tied 2-2. The winner of this match will play top-seeded BYU on Thursday.
