LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team defeated the Falcons from Air Force on Sunday, 3-1 for a school record ninth win of the season. The Rebels eclipsed the previous record of eight wins set in the inaugural 1998 campaign.
Air Force (2-11-1, 0-2) got on the board first at the 11:16 mark, when midfielder Beth Boyer fired a ball past freshman keeper Heidi Hart for the early lead. UNLV bounced right back with a goal at the 20:04 mark as junior Anita Pedford tied the match at one off a free kick by freshman Tania Lee. Just four minutes later, senior Janae Sims scored her team leading seventh goal of the season and her third game winner of the year to put the Rebels up for good.
Even though the Falcons out shot the Rebels 21-16 for the match, Hart saved ten balls and posted her seventh win of the season for UNLV. The Rebels found the net once again for the insurance goal midway through the second half. Sophomore Cristyn Enea posted her second goal of the season as she and freshman Rachael Buscovich hooked up from the top of the 18 giving the Rebels a 3-1 advantage.
The Rebels make their first conference road trip this week when they travel to Utah on Thursday and BYU on Saturday. UNLV returns home on Wednesday, October 18 against the Lobos of New Mexico. Game time is set for 7:00.
