LAS VEGAS - Freshman Petra Gl?ser scored 12 points and pulled down seven rebounds in her collegiate debut to lead the UNLV women's basketball team to a 57-41 victory over Texas-San Antonio at the Thomas & Mack Center on Monday night.
The Lady Rebels (1-0), playing without junior All-American Linda Fr?hlich who is currently touring Europe with the German national team, jumped out to an early lead behind a 20-3 run in the first half that spanned more than 12 minutes. A stiff UNLV defense held the Roadrunners (0-2) to just 30.2 percent shooting from the field and only six field goals in the first half.
Senior Brooke Ingalls added some veteran leadership on the floor and chipped in with 10 points on 4-of-5 shooting. Kate Fitzgerald and Jene Vanderbilt both scored 12 for the Roadrunners.
UNLV continues its three-game home stand on Friday, Nov. 24 when it hosts the Cox Communications/Lady Rebel Classic. The Rebels will face Arkansas-Pine Bluff in the first round of the tournament at 7:35 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center while Charlotte and St. John's square off in the first game of the doubleheader at 5:00 p.m.
