Lady Rebels Drop Exhibition Game

LAS VEGAS - Ye Li of the Chinese National Team hit a driving layup with 10 seconds remaining to give her team the lead and seal a 79-76 victory over the UNLV women's basketball team in an exhibition game at the Thomas & Mack Center on Tuesday night.

The Lady Rebels had a 76-75 edge before Li hit the game winner and had a chance to recapture the lead. Sophomore Constance Jinks drove the right side of the lane at the other end of the floor and had an open look at the basket, but dribbled off her foot and out of bounds.

Jinks finished with 13 points and was one of four players in double figures for UNLV in the team's first appearance of the 2000-01 season. The Rebels were led by junior Linda Fr?hlich's 14 points and 10 rebounds. Senior guard Dayna Gambill scored 12 and Viveca L?f added 10 in her UNLV debut.

China's Miao Lijie led all scorers with 28 points on 11-of-17 shooting.

The Chinese improve to 3-0 on their American exhibition tour after 12- and eight-point wins at Arizona State and Northern Arizona, respectively. UNLV drops the first of two exhibitions on the season and will face the National Women's Basketball League #8 Elite team this Saturday, Nov. 11 at the Thomas & Mack Center.
