Football's Greer Honored

Nov. 9, 2000

LAS VEGAS - UNLV senior offensive tackle John Greer has been named a member of the Verizon Academic All-District First Team for the second consecutive year, the school announced Thursday.

Greer, a four-year starter from Apple Valley, Calif., was one of five linemen on the 24-man team, which was chosen through a vote of members of the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA). Greer holds a 3.54 grade point average majoring in managerial science and has been named academic all-conference every season he has been eligible.

Ten other players were repeat selections among the 18 schools that were represented. UNLV's district is made up of universities located in the states of Alaska, Arizona, California, Hawaii, Idaho, Nevada, Oregon, Utah and Washington.

Four players from other Mountain West Conference schools (two each from BYU and Utah) joined Greer on this year's list. The all-district first team selections advance to the national ballot, which will be released December 5.

Greer will attempt to become the first UNLV football player ever named academic All-America by CoSIDA.
