EVANSTON, Ill. - Constance Jinks then hit two free throws with 12 seconds left as the Lady Rebels defeated Northeastern University, 62-58, in the first round of the Roger L. White Invitational hosted by Northwestern on Friday.
Down by as many as seven in the second half, UNLV (4-0) went on a 13-2 run late in the half to regain the lead. Linda Fr?hlich, who started the game despite a broken left thumb, found her shot in the second half, scoring 14 of her 18 points. Senior guard Dayna Gambill added a career-high 17 and seven assists.
Northeastern (1-2) was led by Genny Caruso, who scored 15 points and pulled down 12 boards.
UNLV advances to the championship game where it will face Northwestern, who defeated Penn in the first game of the tournament, 77-71 in overtime. The championship game will be played at 6:00 p.m. PST on Saturday at Welsh-Ryan Arena.
