UNLV's women's basketball game at UC Santa Barbara on Jan. 3 has been canceled, the school announced on Monday.
The cancellation was forced by a scheduling error by UCSB. NCAA rules permit teams to schedule 27 regular-season games, and the Gauchos had scheduled 28. With the non-conference season coming to a close, cancellation of the Jan. 3 game was the best option. The game will not be rescheduled.
"We're disappointed in the cancellation because UC Santa Barbara is the type of team we would like to play in order to help our own program to improve," UNLV head coach Regina Miller said. "But we understand that sometimes things happen and adjustments are necessary. We look forward to the opportunity to play UCSB at home next season."
The game was slated to be the last non-conference road trip for UNLV this season. The Lady Rebels will instead begin a seven-game home stand on Tuesday night against Cal State Northridge at 7:00 p.m. at the Thomas & Mack Center.
