LAS VEGAS - Linda Fr?hlich and Dayna Gambill both posted double-doubles as the UNLV women's basketball team ran to a 10-point victory over upstate rival Nevada, Reno, 67-57 at the Thomas & Mack Center on Thursday.
Fr?hlich led four Rebels in double figures with 17 points to go with a season-high 14 rebounds and seven assists. Gambill earned her double-double the hard way, scoring 12 points and handing out a career-high 11 assists. It was the second straight game in which Gambill snapped her career high for assists after dishing out 10 in last Saturday's win over Pacific.
Nevada, Reno (6-5) led 32-26 at the break behind a 17-point effort from Kate Smith. After a quick three-pointer by the Pack, UNLV (8-2) rattled off 10 unanswered points to regain the lead. In a game that featured eight lead changes and six ties, the Rebels finally pulled away on a couple of clutch three-point buckets from Gambill, who led a 5-for-7 effort form behind the arc in the second half.
The Rebels picked up the pace on defense in the second half as well, holding UNR (6-5) to just 32 percent shooting from the field. Smith was limited to just two points after half while the Rebels forced 11 turnovers.
Constance Jinks and Kinesha Davis also scored in double figures with 12 and 11 respectively.
The Rebels will close out 2000 on Saturday against Prairie View A&M at 7:35 p.m. in the Thomas & Mack Center.
