LAS VEGAS - Five members of UNLV's Las Vegas Bowl football team will be on hand for the Chefs for Kids Breakfast at Lois Craig Elementary School from 8 to 9 a.m. on Thursday.
Senior strong safety Randy Black, senior punter Ray Cheetany, senior fullback James Wofford, freshman defensive back Derek Olsen and freshman linebacker Ryan Claridge will be speaking to approximately 750 underprivileged kids on such topics as healthy eating, staying in school and participating in sports. UNLV mascot Hey Reb will also be in attendance and will be handing out posters to the kids.
Chefs for Kids, which started in 1989, is an extension of the American Culinary Federation's Chef and Child Foundation Inc. Chefs for Kids provides at-risk elementary students with health and nutrition programs. The group has educated and fed nearly 11,000 Clark County students. The organization has a full-time nutritionist to teach first- and second-grade students at four of Clark County's most needy elementary schools. Also, local chefs get together to serve a hot meal once a month at one of the schools.
