LAS VEGAS - UNLV won the final two singles matches to complete a come-from-behind 4-3 triumph of 66th-ranked Texas-Arlington and take the championship of the 2000 Men's Tennis Invitational at the Fertitta Tennis Complex Sunday.
The Rebels, ranked 59th, evened their record at 3-3 and won their own tournament for the fifth straight season.
UNLV began the day by winning two of three doubles matches to earn one team point. The Mavericks, however, quickly took three of four two-set singles victories to pull ahead 3-2.
Rebel Gregor Skorin outlasted Mattias Larsson at the fifth spot, 6-3, 3-6, 6-2, to tie things. Junior Danny Erez then extended the match to almost five hours by rallying to win the clincher over Ola Bentzen, 3-6, 6-4, 6-4, at No. 3.
"The guys were not as sharp as they can be, but this was a good win because we really gutted it out," UNLV Head Coach Larry Easley said. "It was cold, dark and a long match, but we got it done."
The Rebels travel to compete in the Tulsa Invitational beginning Friday.
