LAS VEGAS - The UNLV Rebel softball team remains undefeated after two days of the UNLV Classic at Sunset Park. The Rebels defeated Central Michigan (2-1) and Nebraska (1-0). UNLV has an overall record of 9-3 and will face Pac-10 powerhouse Cal-Berkeley Sunday at 12:30pm.
UNLV was controlled most of the game by the pitching of C. Michigan. It was not until Erica Vollweiler reached first base by an overthrown ball by the pitcher that consequently scored Geney Orris and Courtney McCandless. The Rebels would go on to win by a score of 2-1 thanks to the excellent pitching of Nicole Truax. She gave up only one run and three hits on the mound and has tallied a record of 5-1 for the year.
Game two was a rematch of last week's contest between UNLV and Nebraska. The Rebels defeated the Cornhuskers (7-6) at the Fiesta Bowl Tournament in Phoenix, Ariz. The Rebels scored in the first inning with a RBI double by Racheal Goodpaster that brought in Vollweiler. This would be the only run UNLV needed to take another victory from Nebraska. Geney Orris had her most productive game as a pitcher for the Rebels. She allowed only four hits and struck out 10 Cornhuskers in her seven innings of work. She improves to 4-2 on the season.
