Golf In Fifth After Round One

HONOLULU - The UNLV men's golf team sat in fifth place after Wednesday's first round at the 24th Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate being played at the par-72, 6,916-yard Leilehua Golf Course.

The ninth-ranked Rebels shot an eight-under-par 280 and are only six shots behind leader Texas-El Paso (274). BYU is tied for second (276) with Arizona while New Mexico is four shots back (278).

Individually, Jeremy Anderson led UNLV with a six-under 66. The senior was tied for second and just two behind leader Adrian Quintela of UTEP.

Scott Lander fired a three-under 69 to earn a six-way tie for ninth while Tyler Mays' 71 tied him for 21st overall. Michael Kirk and Scott Wingfield rounded out the Rebel contingent by both shooting a 74 and tying for 51st place.

Round two was played late Thursday and the final 18 holes are scheduled for Friday.
