HONOLULU - Jeremy Anderson held a three-shot lead and the UNLV men's golf team climbed one spot to force a three-way tie in fourth place after Thursday's second round at the 24th Annual John A. Burns Intercollegiate being played at the par-72, 6,916-yard Leilehua Golf Course.
The ninth-ranked Rebels (280-284--564) shot four-under-par as a team but fell 14 shots behind new leader BYU (276-274-550), which boasted the day's low round at 10 under.
Arizona (276-282-558) is in second and Oklahoma State passed UNLV to move into third (282-281-563). The Rebels are tied with New Mexico (278-286-564) and day-one leader Texas-El Paso (274-290-564).
Individually, Anderson fired his second eight-under round of 66 and stormed into first with a 132 after starting the day two back. BYU's Billy Harvey (68-67-135) is in second and fellow Cougar Andy Miller (68-69-137) is in third. Four golfers are tied for fourth at 138.
Rebel Scott Lander (69-71-140) is tied for 12th place, eight shots back of the leader. Tyler Mays' second round (71-73-144) dropped him into a four-way tie for 35th. Michael Kirk (74-74-148) in 51st and Scott Wingfield (74-76-150) in 63rd rounded out the UNLV contingent.
The final round is being played late Friday.
