The UNLV softball team fell to Texas A&M (9-2) and Pacific (2-1) in day one of the UNLV Tri-Tourney Saturday. The Rebels are now 10-6 on the season and will compete against both teams tomorrow at the Rebel Softball Diamond beginning at 11:30 am.
Junior shortstop Racheal Goodpaster injured her knee while attempting to tag out a player at second base. She will undergo a MRI on Saturday, but her status is still unknown. Goodpaster was leading the team with a .488 batting average through 16 games and hit her fifth homerun of the season against the Aggies before the injury.
In game one, UNLV took on head coach Shan McDonald's alma mater, Texas A&M (9-4). In the first inning, Nicole Miller earned her 14th RBI of the year with a base hit that brought in Charelle Ainslie. The Aggies answered with two runs in the second to make the score 2-1 in the beginning of the third. Goodpaster hit a solo homerun in the bottom of the third to tie the Aggies, but A&M would go on to score seven unanswered runs to eventually win by a score of 9-2.
Game two was mostly controlled by the pitching and defense of UNLV and Pacific. Linda Garza scored in the first inning after base hit by pitcher Geney Orris. UNLV would hold on to a 1-0 lead through the bottom of the sixth until Pacific scored two runs through a base hit by shortstop Andrienne Ratajezak.
