LAS VEGAS - The ninth-ranked UNLV men's golf team fired a three-under par 285 to improve three spots into a tie for eighth place after the second round of the third annual Las Vegas Intercollegiate being staged at the par-72, 7,193-yard Desert Inn Country Club Saturday.
The Rebels (293-285-578) are tied with Houston (291-287-578) at two-over for the tournament, 21 shots back of the lead. Oklahoma State (281-276-557) shot a blistering 12-under in the second round to move into first place. Texas (278-284-562) is tied for second with day-one leader Georgia Tech (274-288-562).
Individually, Jeremy Anderson, ranked ninth nationally, led the Rebels with a 72-69--141, good enough for a tie for eighth place. Anderson is just four back of leader Matt Brost of Texas (67-70-137).
Michael Kirk (74-70-144) of UNLV moved up 23 spots into a tie for 26th. Tyler Mays (74-72-146) is in 42nd, Brien Davis (75-74-149) is in 58th and Scott Lander (73-78-151) fell to 64th place after carding a six-over second round.
The Rebels also had three entries play as individuals: Calvin Kupeyan (72-73--145/T33rd), Scott Wingfield (73-78--151/T64th) and Robert Sul (80-81--161/75th).
The final 18 holes are scheduled for Sunday.
