Softball Finishes 2-2 In USL-Mini Tourney

LAFAYETTE - The UNLV softball team completed the USL Mini-Tourney Sunday with a 5-2 victory over Eastern Illinois and a 6-0 loss to No. 15 La-Lafayette. The Rebels are now 13-9 on the season and will be participating in the Kia Classic Tournament in Fullerton, Calif. March 15-19. UNLV will compete against No. 20 DePaul, No. 10 Oregon St., and No. 5 Oklahoma in the Rebels toughest road trip of the year.

In game one, the Rebels were held scoreless before piling up four runs in the fourth inning. Marisa Martinez singled, Danielle Ferreira beat out a bunt to reach on base, and Erica Vollweiler loaded the bases on a fielder's choice. Linda Garza RBI singled to right field that brought in Arica Painter, who was pinch running for Martinez. Charelle Ainslie knocked in two more with a double to center field and Racheal Goodpaster sacrificed RBI that brought in Garza. UNLV then insured the win with an unearned run by Geney Orris in the 5th.

The Lady Cajuns improved to 17-3 on the season with the victory over the Rebels. Ferreira went 2 for 3 at the plate and posted one put out. Debbie Hatch, Ainslie, and Vollweiler compiled hits against Melissa Coronado, but could not capitalize on any of them.

The Rebels next home stand will be 12 noon on March 29th against Fullerton at the Rebel Softball Diamond.
