LOS CABOS, Mexico - The UNLV golf team shot a final-round 285, but could not improve its position at the U.S. Collegiate Golf Championships on Sunday and finished 9th of 12 teams with a 54-hole score of 874.
Top-ranked Georgia Tech overcame a 17-stroke deficit after the first round to win the team title with three players finishing in the top 10. Oklahoma State's Edward Loar held on to his lead after two rounds to pull out a one-stroke victory.
The Rebels were led by senior All-American Jeremy Anderson (68-74-73--215), who finished tied for 14th place, one stroke under par.
Scott Lander (72-74-71--217) shot a final-round 71 to charge into 21st place followed by Michael Kirk (73-78-69--221) in 29th and freshman Calvin Kupeyan (71-79-72--222), who tied for 33rd. Tyler Mays (78-81-74--233) finished 54th overall.
The team will compete next at the ASU Thunderbird/Savane Invitational at Karsten Golf Course in Tempe, Ariz. on April 15-16.
