COLORADO SPRINGS, Colo. - UNLV senior Katarina Malec has been named the Mountain West Conference Women's Tennis Player of the Week for a league-high fourth time this season, the league announced Wednesday.
Malec, who also won the honor on Feb. 2, Feb. 16 and March 22, shared the award this week with Utah's Megan Payne-Dorny.
A native of Warsaw, Poland, Malec marched through last week's competition by not losing a set in going a combined 4-0 at the No. 1 position in singles and doubles play.
Ranked No. 37 in the nation in singles, Malec downed Whitney Wells of San Diego State and then fourth-ranked Zuzana Lesenarova of the University of San Diego to run her win streak to 11.
Ranked 34th in doubles with partner Marianne Bakken, Malec's week included upsetting the nation's top-ranked doubles team from USD for the duo's 11th-straight victory.
Malec is a stunning 52-8 in singles and doubles combined this season and has not lost even a set since February 25.
New Mexico's Matt Amgwerd was named the league's men's player of the week for the first time.
