LOS CABOS, Mexico - The UNLV golf team fell from second to ninth place after the second round of the U.S. Collegiate Golf Championships at El Dorado Golf Course on Saturday. The Rebels were just one of two teams to record a second round score of more than 300, turning in a 305.
Georgia Tech jumped from fifth place to take over the team lead after the second round, shooting 275 on Saturday. Florida, who led after the first round with a 271, shot 293 on Saturday and sit in second, one stroke behind the Yellow Jackets.
Georgia Tech's Troy Matteson led his team to first place, shooting and eight-under par 64 for the round. Oklahoma State's Edward Loar took over the individual lead, carding a 65 on the day.
Leading UNLV for the second straight day was senior Jeremy Anderson, who finished the day at two-over par. He is still two under for the tournament and is tied for ninth place overall.
Scott Lander also shot a 74 on the day and is tied for 27th overall at 146. Freshman Calvin Kupeyan, who registered a 71 yesterday, shot 79 on Saturday to fall into a tie for 37th place. Michael Kirk (73-78--151) and Tyler Mays (78-81--159) round out the Rebel lineup.
The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Sunday with start times set for 5:30 a.m. PDT. Round two will be televised, in part, by ESPN2, with coverage beginning at 11:00 a.m. PDT.
