PALM DESERT, Calif. - The UNLV golf team still holds the lead after the second round of the Mountain West Conference Championships, dropping to 10-under par after a Tuesday round of 286 at the PGA West Nicklaus Course on Tuesday.
However, the seven-stroke advantage the Rebels (280-286--566) enjoyed after the opening round has slipped to four as Colorado State (287-283--570) climbed closer with a five-under par on day two.
Leading the Rams charge was Nigel Spence (69-68--137), who overtook the individual lead from UNLV junior Scott Lander (68-72--140). Lander slipped to third overall and is tied with teammate Michael Kirk (70-70--140) at four-under par, three shots off the lead.
Senior All-American Jeremy Anderson (70-71--141) was the third Rebel to crack the top five individually. At three-under par, Anderson sits in fifth just one stroke behind Lander and Kirk and four shots off the lead.
Freshman Calvin Kupeyan (72-73--145) is just one-over par through two rounds and is tied for 11th, and Robert Sul (73-75--148) sits close behind at four-over, tied for 18th overall of 40 competitors.
The final round of the tournament will begin at 8:00 a.m. PDT on Wednesday. Following the round's conclusion, the league will announce the All-MWC team, Player of the Year, Coach of the Year and Freshman of the Year awards.
