LAS VEGAS - The UNLV women's soccer team defeated Dixie State 4-2 Saturday, in a pre-season exhibition match at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
The Rebels set the pace by getting on board first with two quick goals in the early stages of the game. The first goal came at the 3:15 mark off a pass by Anita Pedford to Cosette Joffs from about 8 yards out. Jessica Chavez scored the second Rebel goal a little over a minute later with an assist from Kellie Krueger.
Rebel forward Janae Sims was the lead scorer in the match, posting back-to-back goals later in the first half, boosting the UNLV lead to 4-0. Dixie ended the first-half scoring with a breakaway goal by Tennille Bennett at the 39-minute mark.
Scoring for the match ended just a minute into the second half when Dixie's Jennifer Henry scored another breakaway goal, cutting the UNLV lead to 4-2.
The UNLV women will open regular season play on Friday, Aug. 25th, at Cal State Fullerton at 7:00. The Rebel's home opener will be Thursday, Sep. 7th at 7 p.m. when they meet Idaho at Peter Johann Memorial Field.
