Women's Soccer Opens Season on Road

Storyline: The UNLV women's soccer team compleated it's second season of competition in 1999 with a record of 7-11-1 and 1-6 in the Mountain West Conference ... but the biggest news of the offseason was the hiring of ne w head coach, Dan Abdalla, who was a former soccer player and graduate at UNLV ... the Rebels return eight starters from last year's squad, including a pair of junior forwards, Janae Sims and Anita Pedford, that led the team in just about every offensive catagory last seaon ... Pedford was also named to the All-Mountain West Conference first-team for her four goals, four assists and 12 points ... Sims also added seven goals, two assists and 16 points.

UNLV Head Coach Dan Abdalla: Dan Abdalla took over the rains of the UNLV women's program in February after former coach Staci Hendershott moved on to other things ... Abdalla was a former goalkeeper on the UNLV men's team in 1997 and set a school record with 321 career saves over 68 games, nine shutouts and a 1.95 GAA with the Rebels ... also new this season to the coaching staff is assistant Maren Hendershot was a two-time NSCAA All-American, four-time all-conference selection and 1999 MWC player of the year for BYU.

About Cal State Fullerton: The Titans enter the 2000 season coming off a 6-12-2 record and 2-5-2 in the Big West Conference a year ago ... Fullerton returns four starters from last season for head coach Al Mistri who enters his eighth year at Fullerton with a record of 56-69-11 ... the Titans return sophomore, Leah Sims who compliled six goals and two assists in 20 starts a year ago ... these two teams met last season with the Rebels winning 3-2 in the last minute of regulation.

About Loyola Marymount: The Lions bring 19 letterwinners, three consecitive season of double digit victory totals, and a school record 13 wins in 1999 to the 2000 season ... head coach Gregg Murphy enters his fifth season with a 41-27-7 record at LMU and a career record of 99-79-11 ... returning for the Lions is honorable mention All-American, senior goalkeeper, Tracy Sharp who allowed an impressive 15 goals all season and a 0.83 GAA ... also back is second team All-WCC sophomore Jill Dobens who led the team in goals (8) and points (18)
