LAS VEGAS - UNLV offensive tackle John Greer was one of 18 football players honored for their academic performance in the October issue of Playboy magazine.
Greer was named Anson Mount Scholar-Athlete Award honorable mention as part of the publication's football preview issue. Purdue senior quarterback Drew Brees was named the scholar-athlete of the year, which included a trip to Playboy's All-America team weekend and a check for $5,000 to his school's general scholarship fund.
Greer, a senior from Apple Valley, Calif., boasts a career grade point average of 3.54 while majoring in finance. He is two-time academic all-conference selection and earned GTE first-team academic all-district last season. A three-time Rebel Academic Top 30 honoree, Greer is a strong candidate to become the first GTE academic All-American football player in school history this season.
